Multidisciplinary Doctoral School of Social Sciences,
Economy, Law, Regionalism and Society in the Integration of Central Europe
Széchenyi István University launched its Doctoral School entitled “Economy, Law, Regionalism and Society in the integration of Central Europe” according to resolution No. MAB 2003/7/II./1/1.
The Doctoral School and its programme are focusing on researching the direction of future cooperations in the Central-European region and the factors, which stimulate or impede them. They are also aiming to find the opportunities for economic, social and institutional contacts due to the increasing need for interdependence among various social actors, because a more vivid and lasting future cooperations are needed to encourage European integration. Potentially the dimension of cooperation is to visualize and to expand contacts to the regional level. This objective can only be achieved and stabilized in an adequate legal environment, i.e., it is necessary to study and compare governmental, local and community legal institutions. Studies referring to the system of political institutions cannot be omitted since the countries in this region have a particular concern in creating a system of plural democracy after the collapse of state socialism.
The peculiarity of the subject makes it necessary for the students to explore various directions. By the end of the second semester students opt for a specialization or research group according to their research subject. On the one hand the specialization provides opportunity for widening their knowledge in their research subject through lectures and on the other hand for drawing up and accomplishing their research plan with the aid of professional assistance.
The Doctoral School launches research programs that students are able to join. Lecturers from Széchenyi István University and notable Hungarian and foreign guest professors hold lectures and consultations.
